Home Design Podcast Episode 4- Farmhouse, Online Shopping, Guest The Uncommonlaw

The Gist:

This week we chat about the wins and fails of the week. The Farmhouse style and my best tips for online shopping. I was lucky enough to interview Becki from The Uncommonlaw blog.

Starting to really love our house, mostly walks in the nearby trails, fires inside and out, and toddler hide and go seek. I've had a real light bulb moment about the exterior, and we are going to start Embracing mid century modern style original to the house. My best win is my mom starting to listen!

Couldn't figure out how to use the oven. Apparently induction stovetops require specific pots and pans. It took us way longer than I want to admit to figure out that, it was the problem. We went out to walmart and bought the cheapest induction worthy set we could find to tide us over.

Farmhouse Style:

White or light muted paint colours. Taupes and greens. Rustic or distressed, aged. Tons of DIY

  • Apron sink
  • Iron hardware
  • Shiplap
  • Mid tone woods
  • Signs with sayings on the
  • Simple moulding
  • Shaker style furniture

  • Creamy whites
  • Knits
  • Buffalo checks
  • Printed fabric with sayings

Main difference from Farmhouse to modern farmhouse is where you might have a squared off clean line item in modern farm house you'll have a more rustic natural item in farmhouse.

Shopping Online:

Measure, measure again

Tape it out on your floors

Move furniture that's similar in size to that location

Choosing the right colour: read the reviews, trial and error,

Look into the return policy. Very important.
